Homemade Japanese Pancakes


Denny’s in Japan is very different from it’s American version. The food is artistic in nature. How awesome would it be to take your kids for these pancakes! Well we think you should! Here is the recipe for you got it Japanese pancakes. The batter is extremely light and fluffy. Try your own toppings. No matter what you top these scrumptious pancakes with they are unbelievable tasty. If you like pancakes like we do the kids will not be the only ones scarfing down these delicious goodies. Homemade Japanese Pancakes

  • ½ cup plain flour

  • ½ tsp baking powder

  • ⅛ tsp baking soda

  • 1 large egg

  • 5 Tbsp buttermilk

  • ½ tsp vanilla extract

  • Pinch salt

  • 2 Tbsp sugar

  • Butter for frying

  • 6 strips bacon

  • Pancake syrup, to serve

Let’s get Cooking…

  1. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder and baking soda.

  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, buttermilk, vanilla, salt and sugar.

  3. Add dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir to combine.

  4. Heat a griddle, swirling around some unsalted butter. Line muffin rings with butter, place on griddle and fill halfway with batter. Cook for 2–3 minutes or until large bubbles start to form. Flip and cook for another 2 minutes until the bottom is golden.

  5. While the pancakes are cooking, place the bacon on a tray and grill until crispy.

  6. Stack the cooked pancakes, then layer the bacon on top, and finally drizzle with syrup. You can top your pancakes with anything !
